Bassirou Diomaye Faye, the opposition candidate, won the presidential election on Friday, according to Senegal’s Constitutional Council, making him the nation’s fifth president.
The Supreme Court approved the provisional results, which were made public on Wednesday and were based on tallying votes from all polling places.

In the postponed presidential election held last Sunday, Faye received over 54% of the vote, while Amadou Ba, the nominee of the ruling coalition, received over 35%.
On April 2, he is anticipated to take President Macky Sall’s place by oath.
