Real Madrid stated in a statement on Monday that they had lodged a complaint against the referee who officiated their encounter against Osasuna on Saturday for failing to mention alleged racial taunts directed at their forward, Vinicius Jr.
The 23-year-old Brazil international has experienced racist taunts multiple times in Spain. He scored twice as La Liga leaders Real Madrid defeated them 4-2 at the El Sadar Stadium.
“Our club has filed a complaint with the Disciplinary Committee of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) against the referee of the match Juan Martinez Munuera,” stated Real Madrid.

“The referee voluntarily and deliberately omitted the insults and vexatious shouts directed repeatedly towards our player Vinicius Jr, despite these being insistently pointed out by our players at the very moment when they were taking place.”
In addition, Real has added more details to the case they filed on Friday on hate and discrimination offenses with the state prosecutor’s office. This comes following reports of racist chants being directed towards the Brazil striker by Atletico Madrid and Barcelona supporters.
“Real Madrid once again condemns these violent attacks of racism, discrimination and hatred, and demands that the necessary measures be taken, once and for all, to eradicate the violence that our player Vinicius Junior has been suffering.”
The Technical Committee of Referees (CTA) of the RFEF has been contacted by Reuters for comment.
